Curious if anyone has run a Judson equipped 36H on a dyno with the stock exhaust and the Abarth 4 tip. I search around a bit, I wasn't able to come up with even a video on YouTube of a 36h on the dyno running a Judson at all!
I'm currently building a 36 for my '60 convertible, adding in the WW performance cam, their valve springs, and the Judson up top. I don't have an exhaust for the engine, and the guy I talked to at WW mentioned the Abarth only showed a 1hp improvement on the dyno on a 36. You'd think with the extra airflow the stock muffler would start to become more of a restriction... I hate to spend almost $700 on the 4 tip if it's not of any help.
I do plan to dyno the engine at my shop, I'll be certain to share what I get for HP and torque. I have data acquisition on my setup so I'll have some nice power curve graphs when done.

I've only run mine on the sphincter dyno. Running the CSP Mosquito exhaust. Beautiful note on it, but they do hang low. So if your car is slammed, it won't work.

I had seen the drive around video.. None of the videos really show results though. Would really love to see numbers with stock exhaust vs something aftermarket. My car won't be slammed but I agree the center outlet style is a little low.

Well the difference is gonna be minimal hp between the mufflers stock vs 4 tip it's more of the look and sound yes you will get more hp from the 4 tip it flows better ...a judson as is ain't gonna give you the power you think ....dual carbs will get you much better hp... a judson is just for looks not to bust a bubble just make sure your judson rotor/ vains is in good shape and no internal cracks they can be expensive to rebuild..... but I bet you already knew that.... just don't over drive the judson because if you do next minute it's gonna sound like marbles are in that judson ...... but if it was me I would go with the 4 tip muffler why not show off a bit and get whatever hp you can get ...me myself i am a sebring exhaust lover/ nut my belief you just can't beat the sound of a sebring exhaust yes they are loud but the tone is lovely ..... but if you want something quieter 4 tip is it they are louder than a stock muffler ... |

I'm not expecting crazy HP from the Judson, which is why I'm adding the WW cam to help things along a little. I've never seen a Judson equipped car at a show in my area, but I've seen my fair share of Okrasa equipped Beetles. I've always loved the look of the charger setup and finally found a unit in good shape. The barrel has been honed lightly and cleaned up well, veins are newer and it has new bearings and seals installed. I will be running it on my dyno with a wideband 02, which I'm willing to bet will result in more than an air jet change in the carb to make the best power possible.
I have no interest in running the stock muffler. I do like the Sebring style exhaust but i'm just not a fan of how far it hangs down. From the pictures I've seen, it appears the A-1 version is a little tighter to the car than the CSP. I've been trying to get ahold of A-1 to see if he is still offering them but Tiger has been difficult to get ahold of lately.

Empi sells a sebring exhaust but for the 1600cc engines you can have one of those modified....link below ..

I have a bone stock 36hp long block with a homemade dual H30PIC carb setup that I ran with stock exhaust as well as a 1 3/8” header. I hit 76mph with the stock exhaust but was struggling to hit 71mph on the way home today with the header although there was too much traffic to really open it up. It may be that the stock heads/valvetrain bottleneck it even before the stock muffler and heaterboxes. Not sure how much the WW cam would effect it _________________ 36hp '56 European DeLuxe oval
