The old man and I picked up this as a new project to tinker with. It actually has a 1965 F Code 1300 in it so my Username is still valid. lol.

We have been tinkering with it. But waiting on parts. Can not just run down to Napa anymore for a cap and rotor. Have to wait as it is special order now. Bike was running fine in neutral, but ran like stank in gear. Found the center pin of the cap worn down and not touching the rotor so it was spark jumping we figure. It also does not like to stay in first and pops out. But it likes to wheelie in first so second it is.

Been away from VWs for about 3 years when I was hit in my modded Tiguan. I did not like the issues with the newer VWs have, plus the lack of being able to tune them so I bailed and went over to big H. I am now driving a Ridgeline so I can tow my cargo trailer with my other H Motorcycle.

I will be lurking for the most part. But feels good seeing something VW powered in the garage again.

That is groovy looking. Wheelies sound both fun and scary...

Rebuilt the carb. Installed the correct coil, had one for an external ballast resistor and was shorting out occasionally. Got the timing to behave 7.5 idle 30 max at 2600 rpm.

Rides pretty good now. Sorting out a random head shake issue that will put hair in places you don’t want to know. lol

Now to hopefully hear back from insurance just how it’s going to be insured.

Maybe take the wheelie bars off for the insurance pictures.

Sweet ride!

I was not aware that there was a 1300 in ‘65 model year but you never know…

At any rate the 1300 is my favourite of all the stock air cooled engines. It still had the economy of the 1200 and very close to the power of the later engines. A crossover year. They were the longest lasting of all the engines.

65 was the first year for the 1300, the 65 I started to build and had to abandon had one as well and the badge is glued to my toolbox lol.

Sadly insurance initially covered it then decided to decline coverage. Not for the wheelie bars or something with that half. No front fender, no front brake, and more. Checked with a few others and Home Built Trikes are hard to cover. Arrow

It's got a strange head shake at speed when you hit a bump jusy roght,. if you are expecting it it's no issue. But if you don't she's a handful.

So sadly it's up for sale.
