Good to hear. Perhaps you could source some type of silicone sheet to cut gaskets from. Are you attempting a light up function, or trying for actual " black-out" functionality? Maybe someone with a lathe can help with the stem parts (in aluminum?). Keep us informed please as you go along. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

my plan is to offer both 12v and 6v, i think 3 LED lights will do it
i want to offer either clear white light, or be able to install colored film
for example
yellow - good for fog
blue - supposedly better on the eyes than white
red - to keep you night vision - i think this make the most sense under real war conditions _________________ Volkaholic |

finally getting close! got the prototype built, will send to my son for scanning so i can 3d print it
so far is 3 parts
easy part the panel the holds the glass (but i will use plexiglass)
my plan is to offer 2 color filter you can add yellow and red
yellow give you better visibility in fog
red give you better night vision (important when bad guys might be hiding around)
the actual top, from Latvia, i painted it primer gray, then white, then filled in all the rust spots with red body putty, left it this way so you can see all the work that went into it
the inside you can see the mount for the window
i was glad to have that 1:35 part i blew up to life size, to see all the imporant details on the base
for the outside, bottom, you can see the all bracing around the shaft, i spent time making the brass clamp, it is for looks only, not functional, but looks cool
on the inside, i put a mount for 3 LED lights, i will i offer both 6V and 12V
the wire will run throught the mount shaft, so nothing visible now i have seen 2 different bases, on this dissucssion, the bases are round but i have seen square bases, so not sure which to offer, your thoughts?
this is a big print job, so might take 2-3 days to complete 1 build. _________________ Volkaholic |

making progress, made the mounting bracket, used 20 gauge steel plate and 3/4" conduit
has 3 mounting bolts, i used 3/4 conduit for the vertical, one question, i made the shaft 6" but i think it is too tall, what about you? would 4" be better?
advantage of this mount is that you can bend the legs as needed, depending on the vehicle and the exact mounting location.

the mounting is way too tall, even at 4". the notek sat just above the base plate so the tube only needs to be short enough for the clamp with a little clearance. here are the parts (repro)

interesting, ok 4" too tall, let me try 3", now some baseplates are round, like you show, but some are like mine, evidently they had more than 1 design, i tried to make the round base plate, like what you show, but just could not get it right, so i went with the other design, both work, both take 3 bolts, so not that much different really. _________________ Volkaholic |

made a little progress, this is the 3D printed lens cover, i cut out a little plexiglass window, then got 2 films, 1 for yellow light and 1 for red, slowly coming together

After much deliberation and honestly not having either the skills or the technical resources to make my own, I purchased an original NOTEK that was in dire need of work. This particular one was intact but needed some work after years of exposure to the elements. After disassembly, sandblasting (extremely low pressure with fine grit), painting I was left with a very nice period correct piece.
Viewed several war era photos here on The Samba and settled on a final mounting position more or less along the center axis of the front wheel.
Cut my own natural cork gasket and added some aftermarket stainless steel metric bolts.
Next up is 12v conversion and wiring.
