Not upset at all, it's your car, do as you like, but be warned it's not as simple as some let on to swap if you want it to work properly.
Test fuel pressure before changing the pump.
Points or Pertronix?, new plug wires?, old tested ones?, ever done a smoke test? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Posting this as Im needing info on a 1979 VW SuperBeetle Convertible, California Car , fuel injection
.
Problem is i need a new muffler and was wondering what if any are my options .
Really don’t want to change heater boxes or modify the exhaust .
Will a regular fuel injection muffler for the same year car fit,
They sell one for Canadian fuel injected cars ( non cat )
This would eliminate the cat and short muffler.
Will this other type of muffler fit my car ,
Without changing the heater boxes ?
Thanks for looking |

AFAIK yes, the non Cal muffler fits in the same space the California Cat and muff does, since you don't have to smog delete the cat. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Samba classifieds are the best spot, what's wrong with your's?, unless you broke off the adjustment stud, or the element is fried they are not hard to get working properly. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Is there a base setting for the air flow meter adjustment screw ?
I don’t have anyway to test the CO levels. |

Not really, you could try the carb method for no meter, adjust for peak rpm and then lean until revs drop by 50, should be close enough until you can get near a sniffer.
Lean is CCW on that one. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks
My original problem with this car was an issue with the idle … went through eveything and then i found the airflow meter adjustment- lean ccw and rich cw
I turned it in ccw and the car is now sounding like a VW and i have lost the rough running .
Also found out more on the backstory of this car and the possible reasons for all this - disgruntled shop owner , setting up for the car being stored for a year on his lot .
I think some screws and valves were changed & adjusted to make the car not run .
Thx Mark for the help again |
