|
|
Hi
I got a kit to restring the accordion blind on my EVC's sliding door, and came to realize that I'm missing the metal part that runs along the bottom of the blind. Does anyone know where I can get one? Or did anyone give up on their blind and not throw this part away yet?
I ran some zip ties to hold the strings in place, but it's sloppier than I'd like.
The restringing was easy, though my tension is not set up yet.
Thanks _________________ 1984 Vanagon 1.9/4 speed

I don't have the part but have a question as I was just about to order the re-string kit.
It looks like my slider door blind is held on by 2 brackets and 2 screws that go straight up. Was yours attached the same?
Was just going to look into this more but hard to see how to get the blind removed [and of course put back in]
Did you find this easy?
Any insight would be appreciated. |

This is the standard installation for the sliding door window "pleated shade" in Winnebago Campers. Two brackets plus 2 extra sheet metal type screws that drive through the top of the upper horizontal support/frame, through the plastic door trim, and into the metal of the door itself.
As far as a missing lower support/frame piece goes (the one that is essentially a lift-to-raise/pull-to-lower handle), if you can't locate one, you could always source a full replacement blind - Eurocampers.com sells them. The replacement come with both upper and lower supports/frames.

During the re-dye/re-color project on my 2002 EVC, I dealt with several pleated shade brackets that were not doing their job very well. I've found that replacements are pretty easy to break so fashioned a simpler solution.
To offer some additional support for the shade, I used a long zip-tie for each, that goes around the top of the bracket and through the upper frome/support piece, in a loop obviously.
To do this I loosened one end of the string supports, removed the shade from it's brackets, slid the upper support off of the tope pleats of the shade (where the string runs) and then drilled two holes, one on either on either side of the two locations where the top fits into the brackets (only the support piece not through any part of the shade itself, hence why you need to slide it off. Then I inserted the zip ties down through one hole and back up the other (so that it will go around the bracket). Then you slide the support piece back on to the shade with the zip ties sticking out of the top (remembering to insert both end caps if you haven't lost them) and then, after inserting the frame back into the two brackets, zip each tie tightly around each bracket. No more pull-outs.
Wish I had snapped a few photographs. _________________ -2002 EV Camper- Arctic White - 24vVR6 - Ghost 2.0

Sorry I mentioned my solution in a different thread. I should have done it here, too (but I’m on my phone so that’s hard).
I used a cheap Amazon restring kit but found I needed the rigidity of the bottom bar. For that I bought some aluminum C Chanel at Home Depot and attached that with zip ties. Works great.
I recommend getting the restring kit and diving in. It’s actually really easy and turns out great. _________________ 1984 Vanagon 1.9/4 speed
