|
|
All - It's been a while since I've had a project VW and been on this site but I recently purchase a 67 Ghia. I have had a couple bugs and Type III's but this is my first bug. Sorry if some of my questions are redundant with other posts but i have tried searching the site and haven't found the answers. Here are my questions:
1. There is no bottom backseat in the car but does have the back. I am used to having a frame but the back seems to be plywood covered with mohair and the original upholstery. Is this correct? Is the seat bottom also plywood? Could I just make my own?
2. What motor do I have? The stamp on the motor says H0370174. Is this the single port low compression 1500cc? I need to get some parts but want to make sure I'm ordering parts for the correct motor.
Appreciate your help! |

The rear seat (both backrest and seat sections) should be upholstery material over foam padding mounted to a plywood base.
Pics from the gallery of a reupholstered rear seat in a '64 coupe. A '67 would look the same.
That engine # is within the range of those put into '67 Ghias. It was originally a single-port 1500cc, but if it's ever been rebuilt, it's now most likely a 1600cc. 1500cc pistons & barrels are not easily sourced, whereas 1600cc sets are commonplace. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

This is the bottom of my ‘70 seat. It has some contours for the tunnel.
I’ve never seen the bottom of a ’67 but I’d bet it’s similar. _________________ Volkswagen!

The rear seat base also has the metal arch in the center that creates the center bump contour, as seen here.

They're out of stock at KGPR, but I'm pretty sure I've seen new bases for sale somewhere else as well. _________________ Currently own:

The ultimate reference for factory-original correctness of the rear seat would be from the 19,000 original mileage '67 Ghia Coupe that sold earlier this year on Bring a Trailer:
