I’m thinking about installing an inline fuel shutoff valve under the car (‘67). It will be plumbed in the hose along with the filter, between the frame fork and the line going into the engine compartment at the rear of the car.
The purpose would be to simplify fuel filter replacement or engine removal.
Has anyone done this, and what kind of valve did you use? I don’t want anything very heavy because I don't see it being fastened to anything for support. If it could be lightweight plastic like the filter, the hose wouldn’t even know it was there. I saw some options on Amazon but I’m wondering what others have done.
I appreciate any suggestions. _________________ Current hobby vehicles:

Unless you have a rusty tank, or very bad gasoline supply, fuel filter replacement maybe is a once a decade affair, similar for an engine pull. Plus removal of the fuel line for these two procedures is very easy to do without spilling, clamp the hose shut, there are clamps made for this, or use a vice grip or C-clamp. Or plug the hose, a 1/4 inch drill bit works fine for that, I have even used a pencil.
Id be leery of a cheap plastic amazon shut off valve. If you do add a valve, consider a metal one rated for fuel. Remember a valve can leak externally when open and connected if it is a badly made one.
Here are some from Summit...

The valve can be connected to the body, just use long enough hose to reach it, or clamps can be used to connect it to the frame parts.
Also note that if you use a large filter, it will last a lot longer before it gets clogged, thus extending the service interval. |

Go to Wolfsburg west and buy a reserve fuel lever tap. They fit old and new type tanks and were used on standard and 1200"A" beetle through 1967. I don't have a fuel gauge on my 65 111 1200"A" Custom. If you do this, you will get two things. 1. a reserve fuel tap and 2. a fuel shut off.
