Does anyone have the ID of the transmission donut hole? I can’t find a replacement mount. So I’m going to buy a section of pipe and slice out what I need. _________________ '67 deluxe bus w/the little windows

Yes, gas tank is backward. Don’t know what happened there. Gotta flip it.
Still a lot to do:
I missed my local show by 2 weeks☹️, so a lot of projects over the winter. I need to lower rear a little. Probably need to order a new beam. Current one is -6” and too low.

doesn't the donut give you the id of the hole if you use a profile gauge? or am I missing something...

I had to repair the same thing on mine, I'm Sure it's under my name somewhere on here. But right after I did, I found someone who was making the metal mount piece. I will see if I can dig that up. _________________ 52' Split

Wiring tonight. Ugh…..
Could someone please give me details on the routing of the horn wiring and the electrical for brake master cylinder ?
Looking at pictures and other posts; I’m thinking they might go through tire well ? _________________ '67 deluxe bus w/the little windows

Looking for some advice and others experience regarding 6v vs 12v. I’ve installed a brand new (VWLOOMS) wiring harness. New battery cables. Starter is original bosch, but rebuilt Engine is a ‘58. With a 6v battery it hardly cranks.
Next thing is I need to purchase are semaphores. They are a decent size $$ investment. So I want to invest once,
So I’m trying to decide if I go 6v or 12v. The car is not restored, or will it be until I retire probably, so originality is not an issue. I just want to enjoy it and not have any issues if I want to drive it to a show 1-2 hrs away.
I guess my question is if I change to 12v what all do I need to change ? Regulator, bulbs are the obvious things. What else ? Dash pod is from John Henry. _________________ '67 deluxe bus w/the little windows

Those seamed axle boots need to be turned, so that the seams are at or barley above the 9 or 3 O'clock position. Seam up at 12 O'clock will cause the boots to get torn up all too soon due to the axles flexing up and down.
Also tight the small clamp last on the boots, but just before you tighten those down push the small end of the boots toward the transaxle to keep the boots from over stretching and tearing when you jack the VW up to work on. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

FWIW, I have been back and forth about the voltage choice for my 52 zwitter.
In the end, I have decided to do the following, which can easily be changed back to 6v if desired.
12 volt system, on a new harness. Running 12v to the stock 6v starter (works fine), 12v coil, bulbs, and 12v 90mm generator. I have Chip's LED kits for the heart taillights and will hide the flasher. I am running a voltage drop to the semaphores, and spent some money getting the correct rebuilt parts from Matt in Canada. Sometimes he can kit bash early parts onto later parts so they look correct but cost a little less. I think I have early arms and lenses, with later solenoids, or something like that. I've tried fussing with a friends car when he had trouble with the aftermarket semaphores, and the quality is not there for what they cost.
I'm hoping for easy to start and drive, and mostly stock appearance. I love my 6v cars but sometimes they are just a pain... the new to me 55 had me pulling my hair out every week. _________________ modok wrote:

For now.
I chewed up ring gears on two different flywheels doing this. (If it were a good idea, the factory would have done it.) _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I believe you, but you're the first person I've heard of thats had a problem. Mine has been spinning since the 80's. Might have been through a starter or two since then but the flywheel is fine _________________ modok wrote:
