Thought I had read somewhere that there is a "Body Book" that illustrates all of the sheet metal panels and structural pieces and how they go together.

I vaguely remember it being called the "Body Book"

Does this exist or is my aging memory failing me once again?

I am working on the body shell of my 77 right now and it would be very helpful to see a schematic of the original metal panels and how they were put together. Some of them no longer exist now on mine due to rust Smile so it would be helpful to see what I need and how it all goes back together.

I've never seen the bay version but there's one for splits so it must exist.

If you wouldn't mind scanning the images, I would really appreciate that.

Thanks

Yes, that is helpful.

I do have the Provisional Body/Frame workshop manual for a 1968. Anyone know if there are similar manuals for a 77?

kevhum,

Excellent. Thank you. Those are some of the best illustrations I have seen yet. What manual were they from?

they are from" Volkswagen transporter owners handbook of maintenance and repair covers all trucks and station wagons" By David Vincent and Prior technical Editors of Clymers Publications. I don't see A publication date in the book. This is the full title and authors if you want to find A copy.I'm sure there are revised additions for Clymer would always revise them.I'm not sure when the revisions stopped.I also have A earlier copy that covers split buses.

this one including early to late bay windows:
https://www.vw-t2-bulli.de/michaelknappmann/fiche/t206400.html
... choose the page, keep the number in mind, click on the image and you redirected to the parts list and try to find the number from the page (not all the parts are avialable already in the 1980s of the VW catalogue)... translate the text from German to English...

good luck,

Check out the Schofields website. Not a book, but some excellent diagrams for choosing panel, but maybe useful for construction details. The Haynes restoration manual is also very good. Excellent photos, descriptions and drawings of the sorts of sheet metal sandwiches found on buses.

I have the Bay Window body service book. It has measurements, schematics, and instructions for building jigs to do major replacements.
