Hello
I’m building a 2109 (76x94), detailed 40x35.5 aa heads, 2288 cam.
I’m currently at 0.41 deck height and my heads are 59cc.
This gives me a compression of 9. Is this to low with this setup?
Is it worth flycutting the heads to decrease chamber volume and raise compression to around 9.5?
I only run 98 octane here in Norway, due to 10-20% etanol in our 95 fuel.
Engine will be used in a 1303 and a notchback later on. _________________ - 1967 typ3 Notch 1600 (1776)

Its almost funny to keep seeing people being so affraid og ethanol in the fuel.
That said, with our 98 octane you can easily run 9,5 static _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435993 |

Not afraid of running our 95 with etanol, I just avoid it due to the etanol not being good to our carbs and fuel hoses if the car is stationary for a longer period. These cars are not used much, sometimes even months between.
Please enlighten me if am wrong here Alstrup. You absolutely have a lot more knowledge then me. _________________ - 1967 typ3 Notch 1600 (1776)

Using the correct fuel hoses eliminates that problem. Think of newer cars. Ever see them have issues every other year?
Wrt carb issues. Those are mostly due to the ethanol separating from the gasoline when not used and thereby creating gunk which has a tendency to clog up jets. However, if you use a fuel stabilizer or some specific brands of fuel system cleaner, this does not happen nearly as much. A car can easily stay for a winter and still just start and drive on. If a vehicle is only used occasionally I always recommend people to add a stabilizer or fuel system cleaner to the fuel.
Using 98 E5 along with higher compression will of course be beneficial looking from a performance point of view, not just from the added compression, but also due to the increased energy level in the higher octane fuel.
On the other hand, ethanol has a higher octane and more cooling efficiency over gasoline, so it sort of depends on what you want. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435993 |

In the usa, SAE 30R14 is ethanol resistant |
