Hi,
very nice!!
The Fusca was not built between 1986 and 1993, thus it can´t be a 1990.
The ventilation crescents came in 1974 to Brasil, the big taillights in 1979. This indicates that this Beetle was built within these years and the "Fusca" script on the engine lid was added later (as well as the later steering wheel and the plastic review mirror). |

Comment from the owner, who is out of the country at the moment, is that it is a 1982. He can confirm when he returns. _________________ Current Fleet:

Great pictures, but please keep your Mexican Beetle safe, at least there seems to be no salt on the road any more. My Mexican had it a bit better today:

First drive in 10 months, replaced the coil that shorted when I went thru the car wash. Should have known better. I’ve been so busy in retirement, just can’t get everything done. Ran great, as always!

I don't have a Mexico or Brazil Beetle, but love anything VW. I have been searching for years for the plastic H4 headlights that came in (some?) of the Mexican Beetles. Anyone have a clue if these are still made? where to get them?
this thread is fascinating! |

Those are Hella H4 lights, there are the plastic lens type and there is also a glass lens type available.
Just do a Google search for Hella H4, you should be able to easily find a set.
I have the glass lens type on my car:

If a simple google search was all it took, I'd have gotten a set years ago. Glass ones are easy enough to find, and Empi sells a glass Hella knock off complete with a 60/55 bulb for under $25...
but the plastic/poly version is pretty elusive. If you can find a link, let me know |

OK reach out to Antonio Trejo (has parts for sale here, on thesamba), his facebook id is Parts VW. He may be able to locate a set for you. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

Judging from the lens patterns, you have one RHD and one LHD lens. _________________ Current Fleet:

Good catch, the photo is from my gallery, the thread at that time was comparing RHD and LHD lens. My car came from the UK, and I had bought replacement headlights. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle (past)

Had to give up on my Berg 5 speed. 4 times pulled because it was making a whine noise anything above 50mph. Turned out it's a worn out or missmatched R&P.
Dropped in a 4spd from Benco, AH case built as a AN. 3.80, 2.06, 1.26, .89 with 3.88. So my final drive is only 200rpm's off the Berg5 (.82 with 3.8 .
Two years I wasn't driving my Bug because of the noise. Now it's all quiet again, yay! Really looking forward to putting some miles on my Bug this summer. 21 years I've owned it and only put 17k miles on it. Bought it brand new with only 3 kilometers on the OD.
Here's a shot of the Berg5, with the mid-mount I bet it added 40lbs to the Bug:

That’s unfortunate! I was so hoping for long term review. _________________ 1967 VW Fastback (Past)

Me too! The past two years have been very frustrating and honestly I miss that 1.04 4th and .82 5th. Could use 4th for hills and long grades to keep CHT in check, but hit the flat stretches and into 5th and 80+MPH!
Live and learn I guess. Still have the 5spd. Debating whether to have the R&P swapped and maybe try again down the road. For now, going to enjoy driving my Bug again.
