I have a 77 westy, and a 68 square, I'm should be selling the square with no engine, i want to know if I can put the engine from the square into the bus. They look the same...???? |

Get off the crack man! You can do anything with enough modification. I would not reccomend it. You could convert it to a T1 motor then get the T1 to T4 conersion tin and put it in your bus that way. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

seriously what is this the 4th time I asked a question like this? But the type 3 engine looks exactly like the pancake motor in my bus!!! I DONT GET IT |

The mounts are different, the flywheel is most likely different and, for that matter, why would you want to? The bottom end of a type IV motor is better build than a type I style. The cooling is better and overall torque is usually better. I've seen people go the other way and put a type IV motor in a type III, but man you must be on crack or something. You gotta be careful what you do to your vehicles. This guy i know put a type IV motor straight into a ghia without converting, just cutting, and the extra weight caused the front of the car to loose traction over 110 km/h. Most VWs are made the way they are for a reason.

I'm not on crack. I just assumed since the type 1 motor fits and works in a ghia, a split window, and a bug, that perhaps the pancake motor would be compatable with the bay window, and the type 3. I didn't do it or anythign I'm just asking questions... |

Hypathetically, it probably could be done, but i don't know anyone on enough crack to actually try it. I've seen type 3s with the type 4 motors in them and they don't appear to be cut. Going the otherway, just make sure your bus has the earlier style 5 rib bellhousing on it and it should bolt on. we have a type 4 motor in the back of our 1970 truck, but we used the rear section from a 76 van (from gas tank back) and installed the overhead hatch on it. _________________ -James T
