Curious if this is a kid friendly event, or is there a lot of partying going on? Just curious about the vibe. |
There are packs of kids running around.
The main event organizers have young families and make the effort to accommodate other young families.
GoWESTY usually brings their Westy "bounce house" and thats a hub of kid-activity.
There are party areas, but they don't seem to go on all night.
But don't trust me, I'go to sleep too early to know such things with certainty.
But more than once I've camped in close proximity to Alika
….and still had a good nights sleep.
If you are a Vanagon enthusiast, SyncroFest is the biggest bunch of Vanagon fanatics that you will ever see together, and ya gotta experience it at least once.
It's 300+ Vanagons, including the nuttiest of the nutty.
Theres very few interloper vehicles, maybe less than 10 non-Vanagons.
My preferred Vanagon experience is quiet, beautiful, and far away....
And I do that often.
But once a year, meeting old friends, seeing all the mods, all the fanatics, is a valuable part of a car hobby.
And making new friends, putting faces to names you've only seen typed, adored vilified, misunderstood….
It's really about the BEST Vanagon event you can imagine (for the benefits stated above).
And…..and….and
You 2wd fellas can go on Syncro rides that to put to rest that notion that a 2WD can go where a Syncro goes. 2WD can very often go wherever you ‘need’ to go, but it cannot go (almost) anywhere a Syncro can go.
Best advice is to go take a ride with GoWesty’s Taylor Grant. GoWesty gives rides all day in their WestaFari Baja 500 race van. He’ll take you on a ride that will simply blow your Vanagon-mind. And then he puts it in reverse and backtracks the same route, as if you had any remaining synapses to expend. I think you will conclude that you had no need to go where he goes but nontheless you have a “Vanagon Experience”. And perhaps understand your nutty Syncro compadres a little better. |

Young guy in Seattle, visiting friends.
He's tryna hitch a ride to SyncroFest.
His Syncro is brokedown at his home in the midwest.
but he's hot to slum SyncroFest.
Does anybody from Seattle need a rider or a driver?
He's a good dude!!
I can't take him because I'm leaving Monday AM, visiting family and stuff along the way.
If anyone is interested send a note ASAP and I'll hook you up. _________________

This is my 3rd year going to this awesome event and I am looking forward to getting on the road Thursday morning. The drive from King City up behind Pinnacles to SyncroFest is the kick back type of road tripping that me and Van-Go enjoy. _________________ 83.5 Westfalia, GW 2.3L w/ GW EFI, 4 speed |

I plan to make it and have looked forward to it since I got my van a few years ago. I live in San Jose so I will be taking my 2wd, cameras and film as much as possible. Looking forward to meeting a lot of folks I have seen on the forums and youtube. So far it has been a pretty great community. I am hoping to buy a gary ladder for my vanagon there too. Seems like a lot of guys are bringing stuff to sell. I know Burley Motors is bringing parts for customers who made purchases. I will have some free beer to share and I heard it's a great time. Solo traveler this year and I am really excited to check it out. Weather should be perfect this weekend!

On my way!
Found a little dirt road off Hwy139 south of Klamath to stop for the night.
Called Dead Horse Canyon on Google maps.
=======
Incidentally, I brought my “voltage drop analysis” kit to SyncroFest.
To scratch my itch that…..
Most Vans have had zero (or sub-minimal) ground path maintenance over their 35 years on this earth.
-and-
The quality of your Vanagon experience can improve significantly with a $15 mod.
If a couple of you have a slow-cranking starter or intermittent,
and you’re #notafraidofit
thus drove your vans to SyncroFest anyway,
maybe we can put a number to the current status of your ground path quality.
I would not be satisfied with more than 0.35volts drop especially since it takes a few minutes and $15 to upgrade to as-new. _________________

True that, where is the photographs of the event??? lets see the van doing hill climbs, some big time wheel articulation, winching, tow straps, getting stuck, rescues, mud bogs, the play area action, the best rigs.
No photos kind of sucks, no wait, it does suck. lets see them, please! _________________ Sorry About That Chief.

Sorry no real pics of interest but got some Video …..
Link
I’m putting together a longer YouTube discussing these items in more depth, like 15 minutes
But I’m no good at shooting video so iediting the clips takes a lot of time. _________________

interesting shiny parts, but I be looking for some wheeling photos or video, rather than some shiny parts filmed in a crowded parking lot.
Got any photos of wheeling, anyone? Pretty please? _________________ Sorry About That Chief.
