you have to carefully open up the chrome bezel most of the way around till it comes off . i have used a small screwdriver to get started , then one of those tools to open paint cans " kinda hook shaped " is what i used to open em for cleaning ....

When you remove the glass as described above.
Be very careful with the needle. One look at it the wrong way, and it will break. Ask me how I know. Shocked

I learned that on my fuel gauge. Very delicate touch.

Currently working on it now, what does everyone recommend to lubccate everything?

What is a safe cleaner as well?

Last cleaner I used on my fuel gauge messed with the background coloring. Trying to avoid that

Good job! Since you've got it out and apart, you would probably benefit from reading through the following speedometer rebuild threads -- lots of good information and pointers in these!:

Survey says…..it works!

I very liberally applied grease everywhere grease should be, the old stuff was comparable to tar, no wonder it was having issues.

Secondly, a Square bit to drive screws works GREAT to test the speedo hole. It fit perfect and made it a bit easier to see if the gauge was making noice.

I used some lithium grease and sprayed it internally and I think I should be good to go for a while, a quick test drive and it worked fine!
