I had one of those as a kid in spring of 65. It was blue "Bantom"with white rims.
I learned how to ride a bike on it, it came with training wheels and all.
My brother John took the training wheels off, and I had all kinds of problems balancing on it, and crashed into a wall, so didn't ride it for the rest of the summer.
We came back from summer vacation, and I back got on the damned thing and never had an issue balancing again.
The top bar was removable so it could be a boy's or girl's bike, I remember taking crap for it being "a girl's bike".

Ok so I'll resurrect this old thread and show you a glimpse of hoarding Schwinn bikes. This happened over a period of years and I'm still storing all this crap but I'm leaning towards selling it off. Most are two speed kickbacks and a couple older lever action two speeds or three speeds. OG patina bikes, have a look

Mine's not so vintage, but it is the 2nd 2-wheel bicycle I've ever had (had a 24-inch wheel bike when I was about 10).
So I ride a Schwinn World Sport from about 1978/1979, a birthday present from my mom, rode it also on first date with current Mrs. Cusser, and we dragged the bikes to California again on vacation in August to ride up the beach near Hermosa Beach.
That Schwinn bike needs new tires now, uses 27 x 1.25 inch outer tires, the replacement ones have cracked badly, maybe my daughter will get me a pair for Christmas; inner tubes that size are easier to find in stores.

I hope those tires are easier to find than mine, Schwinn used proprietary sizes. Just like vintage VWs though an aftermarket exists to serve us. I used a place in perrysburg Ohio called memory lane. They have a nice web page and they sell wide white walls for the vintage guys. |

| I always liked Schwinns as a kid. The smooth, lug less quality finish of the welds. The quality of the solid steel front forks. every thing else seemed like a cheap copy and therefore a compromise of quality. Not to mention Captain Kangaroo endorsed them every morning. |

not all of the Schwinn bikes used proprietary sizes. The world Sport uses a 27x1 1/4 tire which should be available in a quality tire at a real bike shop. We used to stock that size in Conti, Michelin, Vittoria and a cheap gumwall. |

Like I posted earlier, mine takes the regular 27 x 1.25 inch tires, available at least from Bell and Kenda. Even the Ace Hardware 400 yards from me has a pair of the Bell ones, at $20 each; I'll let my daughter order them online for me for Christmas.
One advantage to me of this Schwinn is that it is heavier duty than lightweight "distance" bikes; of course that means it weighs more so is tougher to push on longer rides...
It looks like this one, except I installed a wider padded seat and a longer/taller handlebar mount so I could sit more upright and not hurt my neck or my hands so much.

| When I was a kid in El Cajon I had a 73-4ish red Schwinn with the slick tire & the banana seat, didn't have the really tall sissy bar...just the regular one. Some scumbag swiped it...never saw it again. |

Wild prices for bikes that are a pain in the ass to ride. 
I had a ‘74 Stingray in middle school. Rode it to school and everything. Lost track of it when I went off to college, but my dad found it, bought it back, and cleaned it up for me last year. Probably one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
Three years ago I picked up a ‘73 Varsity to have some wheels at a festival. It grew on me, and I threw it on the roof rack for 12 states and 7,500 miles. An unkillable 40-pound machine guaranteed to build your fitness weather you like it or not.

Uhh, yeah…? 
I painted my daily driver to look like a Schwinn a few thousand miles ago, I race too many alleycats to have rare/expensive bikes.
