Question: When did they stop using Welah Ladies Hat seals? Those behind the clips that hold the trim on Beetle front 1/4s and bonnet (hood). Should they be on a 56? They appear in the VW 56 parts manual as 21.5mm diameter items, but don't specify when fitted. Thanks for any help.

if I remember correctly, my june 56 US spec oval had them. suboval's original 28k mileage 57 oval has them...

and in another thread janerick3 says they were used until 60 then replaced with the push through cups.

interestingly the term witches hat seems to be used but they are more the shape of welsh hats.

Thanks for that info. I had suspected that even my 59 had them years ago when I 1st got the car. Somebody was trying to suggest that the later style should be fitted, and then the Welsh hat in addition. Belt & braces.

The new style of from outside fitted rubber seals started VIN 2 539 142, Aug 11th, 1959.
To combine better function and old look, you can put the old style rubber from inside upon the newer rubber seals.

There are two sizes for those "Witches Hats". A shorter/smaller type was used on the forward side of the Oval dash IIRC...
