Howdy,
My Manx clone is almost ready to be done for the summer, however there is one pressing issue I need to address. I need to require the gauges and dash of the vehicle to 1) make it safer and 2) make it less messy and 3) get a proper fuel gauge.
With that, I need to pull the front “hood” of my buggy.
I’m paranoid that this may go south. It appears the P/O used some sort of caulk or sealer to seal the hood to the body. I can obviously see the bolts needed to pull the actual hood off, but I’m not sure if the gaskets for the Manx clones are readily available and if pulling the hood may damage the paint.
Let me know your thoughts.
Yes I have tried to “wire” underneath the dash but that it’s a pain. Very tight and not workable to actually rewire in a safe and effective manner.

You can maybe use some glass wire or fishing line to cut through the 'caulk" or "sealer"? Might be a good time to inspect and replace the gas tank at the same time.
its been a while but if my memory serves me (which is 50/50 at best) the "gaskets are actually the fender welting.
Make sure you plan ahead when you sire the gauges and keep things logical and well planned out |

This is a great idea, the concern I have primarily is the car was painted without removing the hood, so curious if that caulking will damage the paint when it comes up? |

I was very concerned about removing mine because the previous owner had clear coated over the joints. I used a modeling knife to carefully make sure it was separated after I loosened the screws. The beading is in fact beetle fender welting. In my case my dash arrangement came together when I realized I didn't need a fuel gauge, I can simply open the lid and see the fuel. |

Doesnt look like caulk or sealer to me...looks like fender welting - rubber strip, like from a Model A ford.

NO matter what it is, caulk or welting you are going to have to open it up..... Just take care and do it.... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns"
