So I'm building a 2110 for my early beetle, I'm going to try to cover all the questions I see on other posts to help simplify things. thank you for your input. Here are my Specs.
3.88 r&p in an otherwise stock geared 68 trans
195/70 tires
I want heat
I won't be racing the goal is a strong street car
I have these parts
new case clearanced
CB 82mm crank
CB 5.4 H beam rods
Forged Mahle 90.5 B pistons
Light chromoly flywheel
1700 lb Kennedy PP
Berg 42 special dcnf's (I know there is better but I have them)
bearings, hardware and what not
What I'm looking for is heads, cam, rockers, compression ratio.
I have built lots of stock and big bore engines but not for at least 15 years and parts availability has changed A LOT . I don't have a strict budget and I've been looking at the CB cnc ported heads but I'm here for suggestions.
Thanks again |

Tims S1 40x35 heads, web 163 cam, 1.3 rockers, aluminum push rods, and 9.3:1. ss143 VSpeed muffler
If you want to keep the heater boxes, you will need to use the bigger 1 5/8" finned heater boxes.
A better, cheaper solution is to just use a Amazon diesel heater mounted under the front hood, and run J-tubes.

Thank you sir , I have considered the diesel heater after seeing yours but I'm fine with the big heater boxes too. By "Tims" you mean Steve Tims yes? |

Steve passed away, and his son Greg now does them. Same shop, same phone number, same great heads. Greg had been working with Steve for years.

Awesome, I just ordered your cam and rockers . I'm going to mock this thing up to figure out my deck before I order heads |

Thank you for the order!
Deck height isn't really a "see where it lands" thing. You should be making the deck height .040-.045" no matter what is needed to be done, so if you have decided on the compression, you can order the heads now.

Also, dont be sorry for the 42 DCNF´s They are very nice street carbs, and can performvery well, also fuel efficiency wise once set up properly. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435993 |

I agree on the DCNF's. And they sound really bitchin' when you are getting after it. I have 40's on my daily car. They have their little quirks, but they aren't terrible. A pain to work in there, but they do run nice.
I wouldn't let Greg talk you into 42mm valves though. I think his 40x35's will be great, and I know they work good with a web 163. The rest of the combo seems quite well matched.

Brian, why don't you like the 42 intake valves is it because of I/E flow ratio? I thought Tims offered a 42x37 head with smallish intake port volume-could be wrong though. |

I'm excited to run them, I had a 2110 built using all Berg parts in the early 90's so it's nostalgia for me |

The ratios are a little wonky, but I don't think they are needed for this engine, and from what I have measured, the 40x35 has better airspeed. I am not saying the 42's suck by any means, but the 40x35 will make for a killer driver rather than an upper rpm racer. If it was a 2276, then maybe switch to the 42's.

Agree. In the 90,5 bore the 40 can be, and most likely is more efficient. _________________ https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=435993 |
