Anyone have any ideas on how to quiet down their Subaru swap? I already have a cat. I want it to be quieter at 4k rpm. Double wall headers? Replace band clamp connections for bolt and gaskets?

Trying to get my sliding door a bit happier. I replaced all of the rollers and latch springs. It feels good and closes nicely, except the rear upper corner sticks out away from the c pillar by about 8-9mm. All of my vertical gaps look pretty good(to me) and the bottom of that rear gap is flush with the body. Im not having any success pulling that corner in tighter, Ive consulted bentley and tried some adjustments but no luck. Thoughts or ideas?

When i got the van the door function and alignment were way off. It was so bad Im not sure I would of noticed what Im fighting now…

My slider does the same if not closed rather robustly. I usually put my left hand on the back end of the door and give a little push to help it along. Seems to do the trick. YMMV

Just to be clear your top corner sticks out not the entire edge?

Ive tried a variety of door shutting speed/force and I cant get it flush. Im wondering if the arm is bent?? Possibly shim or replace. Dont really want to replace since i just paid for all the new rollers…

Look at the gap between the lower left corner of the door and the quarter panel as compared to the gap up top. It's almost touching at the bottom and there is a .25" gap at the top. What's going on at the leading edge? It is touching at the top and a gap at the bottom? Is this an earth or post '85 model? They have different latch assemblies.

No, sorry. Whole door sticks out evenly. Your door sounds like there is something bent or not aligned properly.

Hans

I think the camera angle may have distorted the view of the gaps.

I just went and measured all four corner gaps in relation to the body pillars.
Front upper 5.30mm
Front lower 5.24mm
Rear upper 8.92mm
Rear lower 7.55mm

Access space under Drivers swivel seat?

I want to try to use the space under the left front seat under the swivel plate to put my LiFePO4 Battery and Solar controller stuff.

Is there a way to get to this space and still preserve the swivel plate?

Search "piano hinge" here in the forum, username Sodo did one, I think

For a product to buy, look at website Vanistan.com

[not affiliated with either product]

I put this on my passenger seat.

Thanks I like the seat-tilt kit. That's way easier than a homeade solution.

Lazy Person Question I am not a mechanic- Had an engine rebuild, 1st rate job. No issues there, Fuel rails fixed next, couple other odds and ends.. 300 miles just noticed the Idle Air Control Valve is unplugged. When attached the engine roars like a rocket engine. I definitely dont want that. It is running beautifully now without it.

What is that? Like an extra part of something that was attached for other purposes?

It regulates the idle. If it's unplugged it might be because it's bad and the engine installer adjusted the throttle plate manually so it idles well. The issue with this approach is it may not like to idle at all temps or elevations.

I'd ask the engine installer what they did to get it to idle without the IAC plugged in.

I would guess your IAC is sticking open when power is applied. You might try spraying some carburetor cleaner through it followed by a dose of Marvel Mystery Oil or other cleaner-lubricant. It's likely you may want to find another one. They are used to stabilize the idle during cold starting and as loads come and go like the AC and power steering, if you aren't getting stalling its fine to run without them.

Stupid question: I have a leaky open/closed valve on my propane tank. I want to replace it but my tank is pretty full. My guess is I have to empty the tank before replacing the valve. Do I have to empty it? How so? Or can I just replace the valve? I definitely don’t want an explosion or a face full of propane.

Does it leak if the valve is opened all the way until you feel pretty fair resistance? If so just pretend you are out camping and do all your cooking in the van until the propane is gone. No real experience here, but I think that to empty the tank otherwise you would have to get a propane dealer to pump the tank empty for you.

You do need the tank empty to change the valve. You could assemble a few conversion fittings, along with a replacement tank valve, to install the second valve downstream of the current valve and use it until the tank is empty (if the valve is not leaking through the stem) but I'm sure you'd spend more on fittings than the propane in the tank is worth. And it would be a frankenmonster to look at.

PostPosted: Wed May 14, 2025 1:57 pm    Post subject: Camshaft Sensor Signal Wire Correct Voltage Reply with quote

Hello all,

I’m glad I found this thread because I wasn’t sure how or where to post. This is for a eurovan vr6 and I believe this is my first post. I’m at my wits end trying to diagnose a cam sensor code. Right now my highest suspect is the signal wire to it which reads a consistent 1v less than battery voltage, changing with whatever battery voltage is at at that time. Inspecting further, my ground and 5v reference are dead w voltage readings and all wires 1ohm resistance to pcm with it disconnected . My understanding is it should be P0345 “indicates a malfunction in the Camshaft Position Sensor A circuit, specifically on Bank 2. This means the ECM(PCM) is receiving an inconsistent or no signal from this sensor. Possible causes include a bad camshaft position sensor, wiring issues, or problems with the timing components.” Really hoping it’s not a timing issue as I don’t hear barely any timing chain noise vs my 3.2 v6. Would anyone know or be able to tell me what theirs reads with ignition on and sensor disconnected? I want to get my eurovan back on the road and keep it out of the graveyard. Thanks to all
