I filled my tank the other day and while washing my windows, almost a gallon of fuel pushed out and hit the ground through the spare tire we'll.
PANICK!!!
I found the source was the vent line. Anyone ever seen this before? In all my VW years, I have never experienced this.

Do you mean you were washing windows while the pump was running and this happened? I wouldn't set the catch on the pump and leave it running. Just hold the handle. I dont think the Ghia caused this. It happened on my wife's 2021 4Runner a while back. The shut off didn't work and it poured gas from the relief valve. Could happen to anything but I would think the pressure release on the Ghia is even more likely to not shut off the pump

Imo, that´s quite normal, if you have refuled the tank up to the cap with cold gas and parked in the sun just after. >> Physics, thermal expansion, nothing else!

This was within 5 min, at night, of filling the tank.
