Hi All,
So I'm new to my 65 bus. It has a stock width adjustable beam on the front. A straight axle conversion on the back with transporter Haus adjustable spring plates installed. Now I'm new to these and was wondering how to raise the back up about half an inch? Reason being over certain speed bumps here in the uk I can't help but catch the exhaust. Also with the state of the roads here I want to raise the front up as well as the ride is shockingly hard and at the mo so much so my missus won't sit in the front! The bus has very low profile tyres on so I will look to get them changed as well. Any help would be most appreciated! |

In the rear, adjustable spring plate have a either a large allen head screw or a bolt that you screw in to raise the bus. In the front, it may be riding rough because the shock absorbers are either too long and therefore they are all the way compressed, or they are too short and they keep the suspension from cycling through its travel. |

This could result from gas-charged shocks, and also possibly due to the lowering method (which often angles the torsion arms up out of their ideal geometry to properly effect shock absorption). (Or heck, even slamming the bump stops.) _________________ My name's Steve and it's pronounced "Bust 'em" (cuz people think I'm Tom)

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies. Yes it does have an Allen head screw on the side of the spring plates that has a lock nut on it as well, so I take it you screw it in or out to raise or lower the back? I was also thinking the problem with the front was the shocks, I will check the length of them fully extended and then with the weight on the front to see how much travel they have. I read on vw heritage they should have 2 inches of travel either way does this sound right? Thanks for helping me out! |

Just a quick update, I have measured the distance between the front shock mounts with bus at the height it is and found a set of lowered shocks where the measurement sits nicely in the middle of the fully compressed and maximum extended lengths for the shocks. It gives me at least a couple of inches movement compressed or extended from where the bus is sitting normally so hopefully that will help. |

Hi Sorry its been so long had alot happen. So if found that the front suspension was resting on the bump stops and had no travel. So i went to raise it with the adjustable front beam and found it wouldn't move... Long story short i unseized it and adjusted to the full high but had to cut abit of the rubber off the bump stops to give it the movement it needed as it was still close. Since then the ride has been miles better. Thanks for the help also the rear adjusted up fine. |
