If you can get the head to piston clearance below 1.1mm then you get squish and quench, and the engine will run well with less ignition timing.

The thing is, squish really only works with 1mm actual running clearance or less.

So you want the quench clearance to be 1mm or 3mm+.
Between 1 and 3mm should be avoided as it just interferes with the burn without helping anything.
