So im back and i pulled the throwout bearing to change the leaky trans output shaft seal. Once i removed the throwout bearing and this metal tube, I see the following: is this an empty space where the seal is supposed to be??? I must be missing something, I can not believe the motor was installed without the output shaft seal. it is leaking, but a slow leak. (see old posts) what da hell??

it probably wasnt leaking much because the trans was underfilled
can anyone confirm or deny if that seal is supposed to go there |

I would tap in the seal, absolutely !!!
My 1971 Super is still on its factory transmission seal (it's been mine since 1976).
I have replaced the transmission seal on my 1970 (mine since 1972). The 1970 transmission uses the "early" style release bearing.

Oh boy, yes, install a seal. That bellhousing looks pretty oily. Probably why. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |
