I'm really interested in how the (PROS) set up and tune the single IDF _________________ Key is to have downward travel Preload keep both wheels on the ground at all times once you lift a tire your DONE. Guys worry about clearance instead think of the opposite you want the suspension to drop that tire in the hole and keep you going. Totally understanding that there is nothing cooler looking than two carbs on the side of a baja, I have to admit I am barely capable of tuning one, two would just be a headache for me.
40 HPMX IDF
- 1.15 main jet
- 1.6 air jet
- 0.00 exhaust jets
Some stuff from their NORRA 1000 here https://www.instagram.com/vervevintagemotorworks/
I am not saying that showing up to a race makes them experts, but they have been great to work with so far.

This is an interesting discussion. The things we care about on our cars are not the things the people we look up to need to care about. I learned that too late. The car I supported that won 2019 Baja 1K S.C.O.R.E. Lites has a bowl-sumped single 44 IDF and it barely idles. It will start to idle clean at 1500-1800RPM if it's warm. It has an un-heated steel intake from FAT (though it is a Wik's engine) and runs an 009 distributor, and it isn't even a German one. Many combos like this are on the podiums every year. They have the luxury of not worrying how things act on slow trails or in town. Either way, you'll do well to get a wideband on there sooner than later.
If I were to look to one resource it would probably be Blackline Racing for trying to daily drive a single IDF. I would say look at my thread, but however many pages later I still am not convinced I figured it out. I will say, I was in Moab with a single 44 on a 1915, and you are already starting at a tremendous advantage. I had better luck in the climate out there than literally anywhere else in the country, and my car has been many places. It was a wonderful place to be, people were very interested in my car and welcoming, and I tried to be as respectful as possible. You guys get a lot of riff-raff through there. I almost died but that was nature's fault. _________________ 1974 Chenowth 2RL #1244 Street Legal

My single 40HPMX idles smooth at 800 when its fully warm. Has the usual off idle stumble and only really runs well when in the mains after 3000 and beyond.
Absolutely sucks to drive in traffic at slow speeds when its cold.
Unless you build a warm intake like desertsasquatch did, I don't think a single IDF/HPMX is a good daily all season setup.
The singles shine when you're on the gas and that's pretty much it. That is my experience.
I have no experience with dual carbs. |

If it has a stock crank it needs to run right idle to 4500/5K if not its hack work. Its late spring so I would expect perfection ideal ambient temperature zero excuses. _________________ Key is to have downward travel Preload keep both wheels on the ground at all times once you lift a tire your DONE. Yeah I’m stoked to check it out, hopefully by the end of the month.
In the meantime I settled on using two grote flasher modules, one for turn signals and one for hazards. These are neat, they have two outputs, so I can have the in dash indicator working.
I also got a cool. Watson Street Works C4 relay module and an Amazon fuse box to move my headlights off of the original switch(still going to use it, just to activate the relay) the new hella horn and still have a bit of expansion room left over.
