Hoping the group can point me in the right direction on an idle issue. The car is a '72 Ghia with a German Solex 34PICT3, which was purchased as a rebuild about two years ago from Volksbitz. Runs well except at idle. I've removed the idle jet and sprayed with carb/choke cleaner, run a small wire through the idle jet, and blown compressed air through it. This worked once before, about six months ago, but not this time. Sprayed carb/choke cleaner inside the idle jet housing followed by blowing it out with compressed air, no luck with that either. Fuel filter is a metal Wix brand filter and is fairly new.
I've also tested the idle cutoff valve solenoid by removing and applying power and verifying the click about a dozen times.
Any thoughts/recommendations? |

Before messing around with the carb any more, first make certain that all other adjustments are spot-on. See that the points & plugs have the proper gap, the valve clearances are set to spec, and the ignition timing is correct. The carb should be the last item to deal with...and be sure to check the operation of the automatic choke before doing anything else.
Once you have everything dialed in, follow this procedure for adjusting the carburetor > 34PICT-3 adjustment _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

I would change out the jet just to make sure but that is just me. It's very typical that when you let those units sit they get clogged up. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

What about possible vacuum leaks, wrong air at manifold gaskets, seals?
Also the mod 72 starting vacuum valve in air filter or that hoses can have a leak. |

I agree with rcooled. I had the same issue on my 74. Battled it for a long while. Bought different idle jets, left it loose, tried all the tricks. I am embarrassed to say that in the end, I had the timing set wrong. When I correctly set the timing it fixed my idle issue. |
