I believe the one really big difference is the latch for the engine decklid. 65 is church key 66 is push button. So decklid and valance are different but can be swapped out so not always a sure way to determine year of the vehicle. 65 had two one year only color combos as well. The sea blue or velvet green with blue white combo is 65 only.

late 65 could also have a slash front bumper and pointed rear.

The 3rd number of the VIN is 5 for a 1965 but it is 6 for 1966

The emergency dash knob lights up for a 66, but euro model don’t usually have that.

Also, the 66-67 parcel tray has a dip in the top, to fit the 2speed wiper motor

External difference.
1966 had oval plastic windshield squirters.
1965 had round chrome windshield squirters with adjustable aimers. |
