I'll try to make thos as brief as I can . I haven't owned a ACVW since 2011 or so . I was very active in the community for a long time . Been a Volkswagen bug guy since the
age of 5 or 7 bought my first one at Al' s Beetlemania in Abbotsford BC and owned several since. Got out of it for a while . Into motorcycles and old Toyota trucks , recently my 82 4x4 was written off and while shopping for a replacement I stumbled upon Frank . He's a mix bag , from the type 3 bumper to the awful paint . 4 bolt but with dome hubcaps on the rear . But it ran good and drove decently and at 3k you can't buy anything nowadays. So he came home with us
I contacted sone locals I know Todd Penn and Trevor Pippin to help solve this one turns out it's about 80 percent 67 with a 69 clip . Feb 67 car . 67 case . 69 dash . It's weird . Enjoy and it feels good to be back.

Well compared to a completely stock sedan it’s weird alright, but maybe not so much anymore. many years have passed and these cars have passed through the hands of so many owners.
I’m restoring a ‘66 sedan and have found many things that make me just shake my head and wonder what folks were thinking. Or maybe folks just gotta go with what they can afford or can find available at the time.
I was thinking of naming my car “Grandpa’s Axe”. It’s had four different handles and two new heads, but it’s still grandpa’s axe. |

Looks like it. You can see the clip weld seams in both A pillars about a third of the way up from the bottom corners of the windshield. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

I see it differently...based on:
the '69 dash
the "all-beige' interior paint
the outside fuel door
the 4-lug wheels
I see 80 % '68 _________________ " I measured twice, cut three times, and it's still too short!" |

So fonzy, what's your plan for bumper "equalization"- keep the front '68 style and find one for the rear, or keep the rear '67 style and buy a '67 for the front to use with adapter brackets? Oh wait- now I see- as you mentioned- the front bumper is an early Type 3. Finding a rear Type 3 bumper would not work well on the Beetle because the Beetle's rear is curved much more than the nearly "straight across" Type 3 rear. But if you have access to a matching rear Type 3 rear bumper, you could hold it up to the car to see if it works visually.
So might be best to find a '67 Beetle front bumper to match the rear look and use those adapter brackets.
With the hubcap mismatch- you can put the other rear domed hubcap onto the front left so that at least you have the same style caps on the same side of the car. Though if you go with a later rear bumper, flat '68 (4-bolt wheel) hubcaps will look more appropriate instead of the domed ones.
Does your VIN (registration and frame stamping) have "7" as the 3rd digit, indicating a '67? |
