Hi,
I run a small (as in just me) motorcycle repair shop and specialize in vintage bikes/ATVs. Ran into a guy on Reddit that was looking for someone to work on his VW Beetle buggy so I volunteered. It hadn't moved for the past I think 2 owners. Anyway, I got it running, driving, and stopping. Super fun little car. It was a LOT of hours (almost 30) to get complete. When I showed the guy the bill he asked if I just wanted to buy it from him for $1200. I've got about $800 in parts in it.
It's a 1969 judging by the serial number on the tunnel. Other than that I really know nothing about what these are worth or much of anything else about them.
Would it be worth the $2000 I'd have in it? Any way to identify what kit this is? It looks Manx-ish but I'm certain it's not a real one.

IF IT is street legal and has proper paper work, YES it worth $2,000 ... Maybe even more like $3,000-5,000 IF local market will support that high of purchase price.... _________________ “Fear The Government That Wants To Take Your Guns"

Not sure if the red paint is just really dirty or it needs repainting? Isn't AL one of those states with no title requirement for old cars? That would discourage out of state buyers. Was engine rebuilt or just carb cleaned and oil changed. Tires old? I'd be pressed to pay over $1500 for it. They don't bring much in South (I'm in NW FL) - like they would on West Coast or maybe even NE Coast. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

I'm with Dale on this. Around here you would not have any trouble getting $3000 to $4000 for that Buggy.
Or you could keep it and enjoy it yourself. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

That’s not a roll bar, that’s a clothes rack. |

Thanks for all the info! I think I'm going to pass on buying it. I do rather like it but already have 3 other cars and 2 pickups to store.
And yes lol someone cut the roll bar and added about 18" to it. It's crazy high. |
