Has anyone ever repaired the hood release cable? My cable has snapped and it's too short. I have the OEM with the vw stamp and I'd hate to replace it if I can repair it...Solder? Any ideas?

Yep! Search "music wire" or "piano wire" and find some the same size as the wire that's on your trunk release. Buy a "silver solder kit". You will also want a foot or two of copper wire... like the stuff found in "cat5" or phone cable.
Overlap the old trunk-release wire with the new piece of music-wire by two inches and then tightly wrap the splice with the copper wire without gaps... the copper wire is to be wrapped such that the copper is a single layer with the first wrap touching the next wrap and so on the entire length of the splice.
This photo shows the technique I just described being applied to create a model airplane landing gear... https://i.ytimg.com/vi/3Yt2TgxgVnk/maxresdefault.jpg
Apply the liquid flux and silver solder. Strong stuff!
All the best on yer project! _________________ Jesucristo es mi SeƱor y Salvador! |
