The gas tank on my 60 model is pretty rusty. I was looking at buying a new gas tank but they all seem to have holes for sending units. My 60 model tank did not have a sending unit. Do they make a block off plate to use with a newer style tank? |

A sender would fill the hole. Might post a WTB for a good used or bad sender.
Still might try Evaporust or the home brew equivalent for a lot less $$ to rescue your original tank.

After cleaning up the 3rd used tank only to find pinholes in it, I said to hell with it and bought one of the Wolfsburg West tanks, straps and blockoff kit. It's actually a decent repro - their 1st generation of repro tanks sucked. ProTip: install the blockoff before you install the tank.

The Wolfsburg west repro fuel tank I purchased from them in 2021 or so had a block off plate and gasket installed where the fuel sender fits. So the option is there to update your vehicle with a sender and gauge or whatnot maybe a reserve tap but here's the deal:
IF your old fuel tank is rusty it will probably be the rustiest and most comprimised by rust at the low point where the fuel tap screws on to the outflow fitting, which is just above your starter that uses electricity and potential sparks in doing its job. You better check the integrity of the outflow fitting connection to the bottom of the tank before trying to clean the tank or whatever. You might get lucky and tightening the fitting might twist it off the bottom of the tank. Then you'll realize how much time you wasted trying to preserve a bad tank. Pro tip: just get a new good repro tank and be done with it. Cheapest insurance you can get.
