Were door hinges painted or were they bare - originally?
What about the screws for mounting the hinges?
Thanks,

The door hinges were left on the body and painted with the body.
This was so that you can align the doors prior to paint. And since the captive adjustment nuts are in the A-pillar, it allows you to remove the doors to paint them separately and still have them perfectly aligned when they go back on the car after paint. _________________ Currently own:

So the screws on the a pillar would be painted and the ones on the door would be unpainted? Minor detail, but thought I’d ask so I could do it correctly. _________________ 1971 1302LS Convertible (RHD) owned since '74

Yes, they would be painted on the A-pillar. I don't know what the factory did for the screws on the door, that's a tough angle to catch in photos. Maybe someone with an unrestored original factory paint car could answer that.

This is a photo from the 69 Autostick Convertible that recently sold on Bring a Trailer.
It's unrestored.
Screws and hinges are painted body color.

My '64 Ghia Cabrio was professionally repainted on the exterior to its original L87 Pearl White. Interior and door inner sides were not painted, as the original factory paint was still good. It's in the garage and I just checked the driver's door- the hinges and the screws on the door are still factory-painted. |
