I have an '81 Rabbit Pickup with the infamous vent windows with glued latches and lower pivot points. I've had success using rear view mirror adhesive on the latches but, I can't get it to bond the lower pivot point to the glass. I've tried it only with vent assemble intact. I'm wondering if I remove the assembly and glue and clamp if that will work. I would have to assume this is the way the factory did it??

I've also thought of drilling the pivot and the glass and bolting them together. Has anyone tried this?

VW Rabbits also had the bolt through vent glass on some 83 and 84 cars.

I ended up using Permatex Rear View Mirror adhesive. I found a way to clamp the glass and the pivot in such a way that it ended up with a good bond. How long will it last? Only time will tell.

Update
Permetex did not work. I ordered Loctite epoxy from Amazon. This is used to glue metal hinges on to glass cabinet doors. I will try that and report back.

Urethane windshield adhesive, glue the windows to their gaskets, you’ll never get those tiny tabs to adhere to the glass for very long, just long enough for you to think they’re secure, then you’ll get to watch them in the rear view mirror as they evaporate when they hit the pavement.
