Hi!
I’ve gotten hold of a 1971 Beetle that’s been sitting in the forest since 1997.
I’m wondering which parts will fit my ’69 Beetle.
From what I understand, things differ from the dashboard forward — does that include the windshield as well?
Otherwise, I was thinking of taking the windows, wiper motor, engine, and gearbox from the car, then seeing if someone else wants to take over. Otherwise, unfortunately, it’ll go to the scrapyard since there’s not much left of the chassis.
Does anyone know what engine this might be? It was replaced sometime before the car was parked.

That single-port engine is older than your 1969's. Likely a 40hp.... |
Cheers, so might not even be worth the hussle to save it? It was said it was driven to where it stands now. But cant be sure about that. |

Oh, you're in Sweden. Fan shroud has painted 1.3 on it, but 1300cc engines typically had engine numbers starting with F
1500cc typically started with H _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. That is correct I was there in the dark, and the mosquitoes was swarming me so had little time to check it out.
The 2nd picture I added to the first post, that is not the engine code I assume. Where will it be located if not there? |

That is typically where the engine code is. However if you look at the way the numbers are not in a straight line, it appears those numbers were stamped on by others. It's possible that it's a replacement case that came without numbers and someone stamped those numbers on for reasons which may remain unknown. This could be a tough one to figure engine size without taking a cylinder head off. Good luck-Bob |

I have some more information from the seller and the person who helped swap the engine back in the '90s.
Apparently, it’s a 1600cc engine, an industrial engine. It was bought by a Swedish company that used these engines in machines for spreading grass seeds on larger projects.
I’m going to bring the car home and take the parts I think might be useful as spares for my ’69, then see if someone else in Sweden wants to take over the car.
Thanks for the reply! |

That engine is probably full of water. Hopefully not. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

To try to answer your question about the windshield of the 71 fitting the 69, if the body changes were the same in Europe as in the US then yes it would fit. The US market cars went to the larger windshield in 1965. Good luck-Bob |
