I hate the feeler gauge set I've got, none work good for adjusting valves. So what do you use? |

I have chromoly pushrods, so loose zero.
I do have a K/D go/no-go feeler gauge and it's very accurate

Hi,
I am at work right now, but like the topic. I have three sets, one being the oldest and my favorite one with .006 in some brass metal which is all crimpled/disfigured from extensive use.
The brass one was replaced with a new set that I had and never opened but when I opened it I couldn't read the numbers, so bought a new set and that is the one I use now waiting for the numbers to vanish.
Glenn: Like your set. _________________ 1970 Beetle Turbo 2109cc MS II EFI, W/M Injection, Intercooler, FORD Wasted Spark Coilpack, 48lb. Injectors. |

For valves I've got a single .006" that's 12" long x 1/2" wide. Made by Precision Brand. Never have an issue with reach. |

Hi
Glenn: Like your set. |
It's over 30+ years old and still like new even after doing hundreds of valve adjustments.
The trick is to never let anyone else use it.
I have another one that I will lend if someone needs it. _________________ Glenn

I want to get one of those single size gages with a handle. Empi and others sell them. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

I use my tools for a living. Buy once, cry once! These make running the valves on diesels a breeze. If i want a single instead of mucking with the whole set they come off the ring quick & easy. |

I've got a nice Starrett set but it hardy gets used. The long singles get used the most. Its always the same job over and over. For machine work I use a .02" to touch off tools, for the vw its a .006"
Unless you're doing a variety of work no need to buy a full set. |

I use a single blade from a 12” long set. My Snap On dealer was cool enough to order me 4 of them. I still am working on the first one 30 years later! This was actually straight when purchased!
Better than using those tiny blades. Makes it way easier! _________________ Jimbo

If one is willing to pay $120 for a set of feeler gauges....I would not spend it on Snap-On. Just spend it on a set of Starrett tapered blades.
Depending on how accurate you want your feeler gauges to be ....when measured with a good 0.0001" micrometer, the Starrett gauges are more accurate than the Snap on (though the Snap on's are no slouch).
But, the best bang for the buck...nearly equal to Starrett are the Mitutoyo sets. Ray |

Show me the equivalent Starrett set. They must include the handles! I won't do another 60 Series Detroit rockers without the handle. |

I you have a good Hardware store near buy [Not Lowes or HD] you buy single 12" feeler gauge blades pretty cheap, I pick up a .002 blade awhile back from McFadden-Dales for a project and I seam to recall it was only 3.00$ but it was a few years ago.
OK, I just called McFadden- dales and a .006" single 12" blade is $6.10
