A few years ago my father passed unexpectedly. One of the things he loved was his 68 Baja, but sadly it had sat for many years leading up to his death (this is an actual video he posted about it years ago https://youtu.be/YxIGmuD0MF4). I am very grateful I inherited his bug and want to take the giant list of ideas he had and come up with a path toward a restored baja that meets some of his ideas and keeps the memory of everything he did alive.

He had a lot of fun with the Baja, from installing SeriousFM radio

and placing all sorts of things on the rack he probably shouldn't have:

While I was going through all of the things he has with the car I found some drawings he made and a list of ideas:

To be honest I don't have the skill set to do most of anything from this list until the vehicle has a bunch of other restoration processes completed. I would love to find someone local to Western Washington to work with to help create something my dad would be proud of, and can live on in our family for a long time

You probably have more skillset than you think you do. There's a youtube video for just about anything you can think of. As I new owner, I'm learning they aren't as hard to work on as I thought they were!

That there is some nice words of encouragement, and true.
Also probably mean a lot more to OP if he did the work himself than paying someone else to do it, even if only turned out to be a few things on dad’s list.

An interesting thing happens in forums where everyone starts parroting the same thing and "common knowledge" takes over.
Most experts aren't.

I attribute almost all of my skills to my dad. Dad was a computer engineer and repair technician starting with Univac, then it went to Sperry Univac and then to Unisys. He was a team leader and had his own hand picked crew. I got to know almost all of them too. As you know computers started out as giant mechanical devices and my dad evolved with everything. When I was little I'd watch my dad fix the tv, kitchen appliances and all of the household stuff. It amazed me as a youngster and I found myself taking stuff apart like record players and lamps. He never got amd at me instead helping me when I needed it. Before I get too far off track.......what I'm saying here is that it's in your blood man, you just haven't tapped that resource yet. Start easy with little stuff, gain some confidence. I think that's an important thing, being confident in yourself. There's about every VW resource available right here, all you have to do is ask. I'm glad to see you posted pictures, sometimes they're very important. Everyone's behind you man......
