Time for an update:
I went for a nice drive in the countryside with Nicholas on Sunday and my Ghia ticked over the 20 000 kilometer mark on the odometer. The 2 is hidden under the needle, which I explained to Nicholas I had rotated by about 15 degrees to get an accurate reading on the speedo. Now accurate to within 2%. Sometimes ignorance and a blind guess yields results. Or is it that luck favours the brave?
And a week later:

It's been a while. I was clearing the shed at the back of my garage when I came upon an engine (short block) I bought perhaps 8 years or so ago. I think I might start a rebuild. It's not the best case, I know - H series - but it has the right number for my car.
I have to clean it first, then get someone to split it and bore it out for 1776. I need a project.

How's the "Saving Emiko" crime novel coming along ;) |
I decided not to publish it, John. Telling it here was part of my journey and that's good enough for me. But I have published a few others. In Afrikaans, unfortunately. I'm in the editing phase of another one.
And in between I work on my car, you know. Somtimes with Nicholas, but most of the time we just sit around and talk. Or drive around and talk. Who'd have thought that Ghias could bring such diverse people together? A Croatian Australian and a South African New Zealander. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
