You can buy a cleaner kit for half that amount plus spray cleaner and do it yourself.

Really?, an ultrasonic cleaning, new screens and a charted flow test* at home for less than $40?, I've gotta see that.

(*Assuming they do it like all the other injector shops)

Got it all put back together. Checked for leaks and all looks good. Went for a test drive and totally lost power and zip. Idled fine at start up. Any thoughts?

Distributor getting a vacuum signal?

Good spark?

Good fuel column?

All of the wire reconnected? Temp sensor connected? AFM? RPM?

Accelerator cable still attached?

Picture?

To add to Jim's questions...

Distributor breaker plate moves when you suck on the line?
Line holds a vacuum when you suck and cap it with your tounge?
What are you setting the timing to and how are you doing it?

Alot of times when someone complains of sudden lack of zip it's because a cylinder isn't firing, pull one plug wire at a time from the cap as it idles, the RPM's should drop, put that wire back and pull the next one, same drop?
If pulling one doesn't change the idle you found a problem, next step is find out if it's spark or fuel to blame.
Use rubber gloves or insulated pliers when handling plug wires to avoid getting zapped.

Appreciate the insight. I only unplugged #2 plug wire to give me better access to the fuel injectors. I didn’t do anything else but to reinstall everything in order from removal. I just started it and I’ve lost the good idle I had before test drive around the block. Need to hold accelerator to keep it running.

Here are some pics than Jim asked for.

I’m not setting timing at this point. Ive only attempted to fix leaky fuel line at injector and now this issue. Some of the items you noted might be an over my novice mechanical understanding but I really appreciate your input. Thanks.

You are only a novice until you've done it once, all this stuff can be accomplished at home with some coaching.

You just had all 4 injectors out for a cleaning didn't you?

That still leaves two possible faulty spark plugs, or two injector trigger plugs, old wire sometimes breaks when disturbed. Look for a dead cylinder and then we'll discuss how to diagnose if that is the cause of the power loss.

@busdaddy it is possible the connectors have failed. I struggled to get them disconnected and may have used a bit much muscle to unclip them.

I’ll see what I can investigate the dead cylinder head. Thanks.

Well novice mechanics make novice mistakes…it helps the cylinders to fire when the FI connectors are snapped into place. Makes a world of difference. Laughing

Thanks for all the coaching here. Until the next repair.

Good job! Cool
Every mistake is a learning experience, I'll bet you check that first next time. Wink

It will lose more than just "zip" if you keep running it with the right fan shroud outlet unplugged...

What a great thread, and excellent advice all around. Not knowing how frequently you drive, I would only comment that if it's available and near by, use gas sans ethanol (rec gas) if possible going forward.
