That system looks like it would make distributor adjustments a PITA, and the same for center mounted carb adjustments. Something like the Manx Sidewinder looks like it would be pretty practical, at least as good as its going to get with exhaust between you and the engine while tuning. _________________

I got the new exhaust installed! Sounds much better to me.
The good thing is, if I don't like it, I'm not out a bunch of $$ and it only took 30 minutes for me to install!
Thanks everyone for your input. |

That looks GOOD.
Which exhaust system is that? My guess is EMPI 3381 (?). How loud is that exhaust?
It looks like you have good access to adjust the carburetor and distributor, something that can be a bit difficult on many Baja/Buggy exhaust systems.
Thank you for sharing!. That's a nice looking buggy and the molded in stock taillights are a great touch! _________________

Yes that is pretty decent. Access to tappet covers is good too. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

EVfun, It is the EMPI 00-3371-0 VW Exhaust - Classic Dune Buggy & Off Road - 1 1/2" - Brushed Stainless Steel
This is a youtube Video I located which gives a great sample of the sound: https://youtube.com/shorts/_Wpimw4pR5M?si=toQmMgHr1jvIDoNR
I had plenty of room to replace the 009 distributor with a German 034 SVDA and a Shepherds Hook. To be honest, that chrome belt cover was more intrusive than the exhaust. So I have yet to re-install it
Before you mention it, yes i am relocating the fuel filter this week. I've got the German fuel line, the proper clamps and new filters from Wolfsburg West. The Bracket to move it to the side of the transaxle is arriving today!!!
Thank you all again for your responses !! |

Thanks for the test run clip. That doesn't sound too loud at all and it looks like you have pretty good access with that exhaust in place.
You might keep a look out for one of these fan that fits between the pulleys, EMPI 19-02460 fan belt guards:
They have been long discontinued, but where an option in the early '70's and occasionally turn up in theSamba classifieds. That's how I found mine. _________________

My sand rail came with one. Tossed it in the corner, a bit different though, still there, want it? _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |
