I have a Sapphire VIII (8-Track Stereo), but I only have one speaker, and would like to combine my stereo to a single speaker (mono). The manual for the Sapphire VIII warns against not running the amplifier under stereo load (so, there need to be proper 8 ohm resistance for each stereo output/channel). Note: it has a common ground. Right now I have one connected to an 8 ohm resistor, which is great, but I only hear one side of the output, which is fine if I'm streaming in mono - not so great if I'm listening to an 8-track.

Is there an easy (and small) way I could allow both sides of the stereo come out of my single speaker without ruining my radio (I'm trying to keep as stock as possible, but I don't want to wire another speaker to the rear, which is what they did in 1967)?

Any thoughts on how to take a powered stereo input and output powered mono while keeping load (8 ohm) across the inputs - all without changing a stock radio?

Interesting! I may not understand circuits as much as I would like to, but does this accept powered inputs (post amplifier)?

I do not know as that circuit requires power. Here is a simple circuit like you describe but I do not know what size resistors you would need. My circuit experience comes from r/c car and drone building and playing with Arduino.

It looks interesting, but it looks like it accepts line level (unamplified) inputs and outputs line level (unamplified). What I would need would be amplified (powered) stereo inputs to amplified (powered) mono output. I don't believe that the Sapphire VIII can be bridged. Perhaps what I'm looking for isn't possible?

Shoot an email to this guy and see if he can help you. I would not risk damaging your radio, it is rare and you want to be sure that you are doing the conversion the right way. Good luck!
