Hi guys,

I am in the process of rebuilding my Weber idf 40 made in spain. I own them for the last 10 years, use them in my 1776, then move to a 2.1 with dell 36.
So the idea is a quick refresh, then tune them for the big motor.

But of course the god of vw decided the plan was too easy, too quick, and not expensive enough Twisted Evil

When I stripped them I clearly see that the throttle body plates were not fully closed, it seems my shaft has a twist Crying or Very sad I tried to remove the plate and gently bend it without removing it.

Here is my results:

Is that good enough? or they should be really really closed?
Should I remove the shaft and try to untwist it in a vice?

Thanks for all your help!

Only way you’ll really know is to get it as close as you can, install it, and hit it with a snail gauge. If you can balance the barrels with the balance screws, great. If not, see Dale’s post.

Then, before you put it all back together for real use, try to figure out how they got bent in the first place. Twisting the throttle shaft nuts against the stops? Linkage set up so the carb slams on the full throttle stop?

Once determined, address that too.
