I have a pair of 356 A brake drums. The liners appear different. The first has the wear indicator slot on the outside edge and the other does not have a wear indicator slot. Since my measurement of the liner width is almost the same between them at 3.5 mm, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if all 356 A drums had the wear slot, or if there were also drums without slot.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

There are different style of 356 pre A and A drums from model 1952 to 59. You have front or rear drums? Suggest to post pics from inside, outside and spare numbers on them.

According to Porsche book "Typen, Maße, Toleranzen" it is as follows:

Assuming you have drums 280 x 40, not Carrera 280 x 60 (only front)

new drums are 280 ,0 +- 0,1 mm

oversize is 281,0 +- 0,1

wear limit is 282,0 for "normal" 280 x 40 drums, for Carrera with 280 x 60 mm, limit is 281,0 mm only

A wear slot is not mentioned in book in hand.

Very important is, that the rear drums have no play on drive shafts and that there is no corrosion between aluminium and steel parts.

For the worst case, you have luck, new A-drums are available again, but not really cheap.

Thank you Wagen19. Sorry they are fronts and are "A" type, not pre A. I have those same specs in the book Information Please.
I will get a photo of each so you can see what I mean. It may be that the wear limit slot on the liner outer edge is not factory although the liner looks little used with no wear marks or ridges.
