Hello new here and not sure where to post this..But will try here..
I recently bought a Sand Rail buggy. The problem is the transaxle is bad. It is a Swing Axle type. I think these swing arm ones were pre 68. I really cannot install a later IRS without more expense, parts and welding skills it appears. I am having trouble fining a Swing Axle type for replacement. Plenty of IRS Transaxles out there for sale..Swing Axle ones appear very hard to find in my area anyway.. Finding a Swing axle would sure be the easiest solution..But where?
I was trying to do some reading if I could swap my Swing Axles into a IRS type by swapping internal parts from my Swing type into a later IRS case..But never found a tutorial do do so or if can even be done. Thanks any help appreciated.. |

Get a hold of Scot at Metal Craft Motorsports, in Sanger, California. He is the best builder I know of!

| Way, way too far away for me..I am in Nebraska. Having a transaxle rebuilt is way to cost prohibitive even it was local. I just need to repair the one I have or buy a good IRS one locally and swap parts around between a swing and a IRS to get it to work..Thanks though. |

Gary Pearson wouldn't be too far from you. You can find him in the Kansas City VW groups on Facebook.
Or get with one of the builders on this site & they can ship one to you. |
