the M spring stopped being used in ~1960.
a '63 would use the later style, readily available bushing like seen here http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111701259A |

well it has been one month since i asked for input on another batch of M springs. i also placed a feeler ad in the classifieds.
while there is certainly some interest and need for these, at this time it is not financially realistic for me to have another batch made.
to everyone who sent a PM or an email: i have your names on a list and will keep that list going.
i will continue to see how much interest in generated in the coming months, and perhaps i can do another run in the summer. |

thanks for the update hazetguy on the m-spring.
i continue to have questions about shifting issues on my early 58 bus and am not sure if this relates to the 3 fingered bushing and a good m-spring. i don't have the bushing and my m spring is very worn with two holes in it.
could this explain why i can only find 1st, 2nd, reverse... or 3rd and 4th if I adjust the shifter and lockout plate over. I've been able to manually find all gears when I go under the bus and move the shift rod with my hands so I know the trans is ok. but no luck when the shifter is installed.
I've spent several hours on this and cannot get it. The shift rod looks original and straight. Shifter could be worn at the bottom perhaps? Front trans mount could be the problem? All shift rods are lined up correct and grub screws are lined up tight and secure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

To add to what seems to be an official M spring thread, I just got one of M springs above, and while I don't have her back driving yet, the part appears to be well made. _________________ -Adam

Please ignore my ignorance... but what's the role of this M spring?
I have a '57 and, apparently, I need one. |

I presume you are referring to this picture. But I really don't see the point of that M spring, the rod is already hold in place by that early type of bracket.
Here's a better picture, with the rod:

| It keeps it from chattering and trying to move on it's own. Think of it as two little people on each side of the hole pushing down with slightly slippery shoes. |

I'll try to live without it. At least until I can find an early bracket.
Does anyone have an early bracket for sale? |

Is there a known date in production when the M-spring front shifter support plate was replaced with the later style plastic bushing? I don't see it in PR.
My 12/59 has the bent shifter with M-spring support bracket; curious how late the spring was used. _________________ WANTED:

Hi everyone,
Is anyone supplying the shift rod guide and M spring at present, please?
All the links in the thread are dead, unfortunately.
Thanks. _________________

Is there a chassis number for when the M-spring ended and the newer polymer bushings started? _________________ WANTED:

My previous supplier quit making/selling them. I provided an NOS example to another supplier who should reproduce them at some point. I am not sure of the timeline though. _________________ .

Thank you, gents.
It seems that a few suppliers are now stocking them. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is.
I'm placing my order with BusOK. _________________
