Intended to drive my '74 to work today. Got 2 miles from the house and it died. More on that in a separate thread.

I visited the Beetle Meeting in Tossa de Mar, organized by the Amics del Volkswagen de Catalunya https://www.avwc.org/edatvw.php at the Costa Brava at the Mediterranean Sea. It was a great event with araound 300 cars and I even gained the prize for the longest journey (around 3000km/1900 miles).

^ Congratulations on your long distance award, and an obviously fantastic and scenic trip! 1900 miles! That's more than from New York City to Denver, Colorado one-way; or from NYC to St. Louis, Missouri and back!

Installed a new right rear lower engine tin, adjusted the rear brakes and changed the oil.

I wasn't aware that those plates were available new ! Back about 8 years ago when I rebuilt my 1971 original engine (I'd had it since 1976), I strangely found that one tin piece missing, so I made one.

Since then I found used sled tins at a VW swap meet and purchased them, but have not installed them.

Excellent! Proof of your determination. Why was it undriven for so long? Prolonged mechanical work, "life priorities", lull in interest, etc?

I was going to write up a long explanation, but basically life happened, just never had the time, space, and money at the same time. So, I finally decided "now is the time". However, I still don't have a lot of time, so I took it down to a VW shop and just told them to rebuild or replace everything needed to get it back on the road. Of course then I just decided to get everything replaced.

Thank you! Car drove like a champ with zero issues other than storm rain and wind trying to blow me off the road here and there.

Took a drive to the marina to check on our boat. It was nice to have a dry day; rain is expected for the next several days.

I drove my 1971 Beetle Convertible yesterday, and then again today; topless of course !

We took our 2014 Yukon Denali to the shop to get its transmission, transfer case, and front and rear differentials serviced. Without a lift, and the different fluids/pumps required, too much for me. $331 fluids and materials, $255 labor, pretty much what I expected. We bought this 3 years ago with 76K miles and "in writing" that such had been changed just before we bought it, but now at 118K miles (some of that towing a horse), just makes sense to have that done. So we drove the VW over to pick it up.

I'd recently done oil change and front and rear brakes on it myself.
