Got my shifting rod out to replace bushings. Is this look like the original rod? Feels light weight like electrical conduit and the welds don’t look factory. Line up of rod to trans nose shaft seemed off some too. Measure at 45-1/8” long from end to end. Couldn’t find much info on this specific year. Any ideas of sourcing a replacement if need be??? Any help is highly appreciated.

| You should be able to source one of those on the samba classifieds. There is one advertiser in boone North carolina that would probably have one of those even if not specifically listed. The one you have looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet. |

| I was just joking that it looked a little beat up, an that it might have been repaired in the past. |

But does anyone of this is actually stock? There is no slight bend in the shaft. Is the shaft supposed to feel like a lightweight piece of aluminum conduit? |

Yes that appears to be stock and the bend is normal. _________________ Chasing Squirrel's.

From your avatar I ASSUME you have a 1968 as I have?
According to the VW documentation there was a new shift rod as of 118 000 001. So something is different from previous year models.
Many websites use the part number 113 711 155 to describe shift rods that are suitable for all sorts of models so I don't know if these are always correct for a 68. Previous and subsequent to the 68 either used a different number or the correct number with a suffix letter.
Here is an ebay correct one for sale. It shows the length to be 47.75" plus some pictures to help.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/386869984200
If you do a search for VW 113 711 155 you get a number of hits variously showing the code to suit 60-64 (MA Motor Works) and others. These may NOT be correct or most likely they have used the incorrect part number for the year.
If yours is not as per the pictures in the ad, then it is possible that someone has modified an "incorrect" one to suit your car. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

I think the 'improvement' was the elimination of the slot in the cup for the shifter ball. At least. Allows the shifter to spin. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia
