Yeah wasn't an option with the online order form. Knew someone was going to point that out. Hell had to google just to spell! |

Get some white paint to match the background of the plate and add a line across each upright of the U to make your own. You owe it to die Sprache. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic, tragically crushed by a falling hickory tree in my own driveway and now gone, leaving me Vanagonless and with no plans to replace it, alas. |

Yay! I did something similar for my VELO plate so it would have the correct accent mark. Diacritical marks exist for a reason.

Last night spent some time aligning my shift linkage after rebuild using markward's instructions. All gears except G are smooth and solid, G is kinda popping out, so today I'll clear out the driveway to test back and forth.
Also figured out a no crank condition: yellow-top battery read 12.2v off the charger, but next day it was 11.7v. Spare Duralast battery off the charger reading 12.7v, cranked right away.
Then it would crank but not start (had just finished a lot of engine wiring work)...turns out I forgot to plug in connector C (I think) back into the ECU, and then started up right away.
Followed by wine at the fire pit with the wife. _________________ 1986 VW 3-knob Syncro Tintop w/ 1992? Suby Legacy 2.2L (KEP install) |

Tis the Season for Snow Tire Swap, so did that at Work today.
Installed the previously broken Drivers Slider Window Glass as well. A BIG thank you to Ed in New Mexico for the used slider windows.....
Boy, even with some quality time learning about these windows last year when I put new Window Channel Seals and Fuzzy seals in, it's still a learning experience messing with the Slider Windows.
Getting the screw started in the latch is probably my least favorite part of it. Just begging for the thread to catch and start threading in.....
Battery test of the 2018 NAPA battery still shows unbelievable amount of capacity after all these years. It's like 98%. But, I'm wary of getting another year out of it, or at least Winter. We'll see.
Removed the Rear Drums to inspect the springs and cylinder after Howesights thought prose on what he went through with a rusted brake spring coming apart. Chicago after all DOES LOVE salt for Winter Driving... _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

Usual causes, rust clogged the pretty tiny hole in the screw, you use a very small drill bit , like 1/16", to gently work the bit through the rust on the side of the bleeder screw. Sometimes it's rust clogging the caliper body instead of the screw, but again, drill bit twisting through the rust block frees up the rust particles and you're back in business with fluid flow.
Hopefully not swelling rubber brake hoses- how old are your flexible brake hoses? _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

As usual, jlrf is right on track!
Did your bleeders have caps in place? I know my van didn’t come with any, and they go a long way towards preventing this problem.
If not, time to restock…cheap insurance…this is what they’re for, and they work!

PS: Some generic versions from your FLAPS will work also.

Agreeing with dhaavers, the rubber caps are pretty much necessary. One step further could help too: after bleeding, there will still be a bit of brake fluid in the stem of the bleeder, that should be cleared out with a blast of carb/brake cleaner, then the rubbers put on. To finish up, smear a bit of grease around the base of the bleeder stems at the caliper/cylinder/clutch.
Also, when bleeding, loop the clear hose up above the bleeder valve, so as to create a space where there is definitely NO air bubble, thus no chance for any air back into the system as you close the valve.

A couple of broken ribs could t stop me today (but they sure slowed me down). Chris had just sent me new T3 shocks for all 4 corners and I got them on in my tiny driveway.
Next up, play with settings.
Next next up, install his front anti-sway bar sitting in my garage.
Right now, Tylenol… _________________ 87 Westy 2WD “Van Geaux”

| Thanks for all the input. I completely removed the bleed screws and nothing was flowing out of the caliper. Fluid was freely flowing from the brake line when caliper was originally removed But I was at the end of my day, no light and started to rain. Brake pedal feels rock solid and stops the wheel. So probably just some crud got forced towards the bleed ports when I pushed the pistons back? Bleed screws all had rubber covers. I'll do the lines next for safe measure, van is new to me, they don't look bad though.. Original owner kept it up well until parking it in the 00s, just drove it minimally and to smog it every two years. and it's California condition with minimal rust anywhere for an old vw. |

Drill bit to the caliper bleed port did the trick. Completely gunked up on both. Thanks.
Drove it around to break in the brakes a bit, felt great. Then parked it, went to try out the fresh keys I had ground and van would only crank, not start. First no start since I got it. A job for tomorrow lol |
