Were these flaps on 36hp motors? I have two fan housings and neither show any signs of having these internal flaps. |

No, the flaps started in around 63 or 64. _________________

1965 actually. The possible exception is the standard beetle was sold thru end of 1965 model year with 36 HP engine, it ran fresh air heating since DEC62. Do not know if they switched to the flaps for that 36 HP engine for the 1965 model year, but would think so.

There are Five basic "SEDAN" models of left-hand drive for 1963 coming out of Germany. They all have different specifications like engines, paint color, interior trim, bumper type, exterior trim. To list the differences would take several pages. Just for instance, the standard models and the Custom models pans have no seat tracks, they have the stud in the floor and the claw and wing nut to secure the tube of the seat frame, and the pan floor has the welded in mushroom fasteners for the old-style floor mats.
1. 111 Standard, with 1200 36 hp with fresh air heat exchangers.
2. 115 Standard, sunroof with 1200 36hp with fresh air heat exchangers.
3. 111 1200 Custom with 1200 36hp with fresh air heat exchangers. Canadian Customs get the 1200 40hp engine.
4. 113 deluxe, with 1200 40hp with fresh air heat exchangers.
5. 117 deluxe sunroof with 1200 40hp with fresh air heat exchangers. |

If RCJH77's question is about the usual N. American delivered pre-1961 deluxe (or standard models thru 1964 model year) VW beetle then definitely the throttle ring was used. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

I do have the throttle ring. The question was specifically re: the flaps at the bottom inside of the fan housing (which mine doesn’t have). Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t wasting time looking for them if they don’t belong on my motor. |

Flaps and throttle ring together was never a together thing for VW. It was that the flaps replaced the throttle ring. Always good to ask, and not later wish had asked! _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
