[img]Weird question I’m sure, which is probably why I can’t find my answer within the search..
I have a 1961 beetle chassis that I can see some visual misalignment when I look down tunnel from the frame head. I removed the tunnel plate from the bottom to help with alignment, but I’m curious how much tolerance would be allowed or reasonable in measuring the angle of the front beam against the angle of the rear torsion housing tubes. I’m using those to measure whether or not my axles will theoretically sit in alignment with each other once I have 4 wheels. I’ve attached some images to help explain this better. When I bolt on the front beam and measure this with my digital angle finder, it reads a different number than each one of the rear torsion housing tubes. They’re all less than a degree off from each other, but I’m not sure how this translates and I’d love to get them as close as possible or before welding the tunnel plate back in place.
Let me know if I need to explain this better or if this need to be in another forum.
[/img]Thanks!

The VW 1200 workshop manual outlines how to check frame alignment using a VW factory frame jig VW1025. With the tolerances outlined in the pages I think you might be able to do the necessary checks by setting the pan on a level surface to see if you are at least in the ballpark.

| Slow-N-Rusty thank you for the reply! That’s super helpful and I’ve been considering making a frame jig. Looks like that’s my next step! |
