Since getting my '69 back on the road, I've been trying to take advantage of any nice day we have to pick my daughter up from high school. Friday we took a little cruise after I picked her up, and she really enjoyed it. Especially once we were back in town, stuck in traffic, and a VW fan was talking to us at every light!
The drive did show I need to do some main jet changes, it does seem to fall on it's face up around 55-60. Running 150 mains right now, but I think I'll drop to 145 and see how it does; I have some 155s as well to try. My weber book troubleshooting section has recommendations for either direction LOL. It's one or the other for sure!

At cruising speed, you'll likely be on the idle jet circuits.
The mains come in during heavy throttle applications.
What's your idle jets sizes? _________________ I have learned over the years.

I do hit the mains a lot on the street
Idles are 65, mains 150 on F7 tubes with 200 airs right now. It does seem to run better cold which makes me think the mains are a tad big too. More tweaking, and since it's not a daily anymore, and stays in the garage, it'll be easier to do tuning. This was the longest I've driven it since getting it back on the road; I'll keep extending the drives just to make sure it's happy all around. Sunshine & 65 degrees on Friday was perfect for it though, that's for sure!

Our local VW club participated in yesterdays Christmas parade in Manassas VA. Overcast and a nasty wet 39* standing around for 2 hours in the staging area but fun times were had by all. Check out the '59's Polizei Bug's sign from Checkpoint Charlie. The car has working sirens and lights, and also has the original dash police radio which has an old-school corded handset, although it's non-op. The '53 green Morris Mini is an honorary "VW-adjacent" member of the club. We figure the car's the right size, has nice curves, and is definitely cool enough to hang w/the 'Dubs!

Not today, but last week drove from VABCH, VA to Lake City, FL and back. No troubles at all.
Stopped for non-ethanol gas at Buc-ee’s and for a picture at Harbor Freight Tools. Great trip/no issues. Keep driving them/pat

Excellent! I've made the trip from Arlington, VA to Miami and back 9 times over the last 5.5 years in my '73 Super, never a problem. I did have an issue w/my '74 last year. But ready to do it again in February! _________________ "Men are qualified for civil liberty in exact proportion to their disposition

Vamram,
You're one of my inspirations. I'm anticipating a coast to coast trip in the fall next year. I'll copy you on posts as I prepare. VR/pat |

Wow, I'm honored! I'd love to do a trip x-country some day! I'll have to wait until retirement for that though! Samba member TCTDI has done it multiple times. _________________ "Men are qualified for civil liberty in exact proportion to their disposition

If the snow isn't too deep and it's 15 degrees or warmer, I drive it. I'd drive in colder weather but my heater channels are blocked-off so no heat. It was 25 this morning, so no problem.

Had some warmer days 80 degrees so I took advantage I got the bug up to full operating temperature and cruising speed. Looks a little rough but it’s sporting original paint. It was a 500 dollar roller purchased from a car show in arkansas. No engine and missing some interior, a parts car sitting at least a dozen years. It helped that I had access to a donor car. The engine was just whatever parts I could find but I did balance it. I managed to cover almost 50 miles on that Christmas Day drive and did wear a Santa hat
