| I've had this beam for years on a project car, bought it, modified it into an air-ride beam originally using through-rods instead of the stock torsion leaves and so never fully assembled it like a stock beam. Now I've decided to swap in the stock torsion leaves (will decrease turn radius) but it seems like the divets are too far apart. When the pinch bolts are tightened, there's about 3/4" of side to side play in the control arms. Can I just turn the leaves over, clamp the arms together and redrill the leaf pack divet or are there different sets/years? I've read of guys redrilling when narrowing a beam. Could there be an issue with my beam from Cip1? Thanks. |

Compare the length of the suspect beam with a stock beam. You could redrill leaves or add a thrust washer to take up the slack. _________________ 73 Type 181

| In the end it was not too bad a fix, just cost me an afternoon. I removed the control arms and spring packs, flipped them over and re-inserted them. The control arms were then slid back into place and a drill bit that filled the bore of the pinch bolts was used to mark the spring pack. After removing the spring packs again, the divots were created where the drill left marks. It took me a combination of drill and die grinder to get the divots the correct shape as the end of the pinch bolt points are 45 degrees. Re-assembled everything, done! |
